Starting in 2005 under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the city began to take important steps to reduce the city’s carbon footprint and prepare for the worst effects of climate change. While some argue that New York City must be more aggressive, given the lack of action or urgency from Washington, there are blueprints in place to make necessary and historic changes. ![]() NYC C02 Emissions by Sector (2016, in tons) The failure of national leaders to take any significant action has left New York City largely on its own.
